The Building and Construction Gateway to Industry Schools project is a school-based, industry-supported program specifically designed to engage students with career pathways and opportunities in the construction industry.
The project involves the construction industry working with schools and local industry partners to:
- raise the profile of careers in construction for students
- create building and construction career pathways for students through school-based education and training opportunities including work experience and structured work placements
- assist with professional development for teachers
- develop and implement curriculum with a construction context, including core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science.
The project is currently under review. It is proposed that the focus of the project move from traineeship/apprenticeship career pathways options to the development of paraprofessional and professional pathway options for students.
