The Queensland Government is developing the next small business strategy to ensure we are providing the right support to build a strong and resilient small business sector to support growth and jobs.

To help inform development of the next strategy, a discussion paper was available for public consultation with small business across Queensland during November–December 2019.

The consultation period is now closed. We will now consider all responses received and thank all stakeholders for their involvement.

Through gathering your feedback on the issues and opportunities that matter most to small business, we will ensure that the next Queensland small business strategy supports small businesses to be resilient and confident to create sustainable jobs for our local communities.

We plan to release the next Queensland small business strategy in mid-2020.

Queensland Small Business Strategy Discussion Paper

The Queensland Small Business Strategy Discussion Paper set out the challenges and opportunities that the Queensland Government identified as important to the small business community, as well as what support is already in place. It also asked what else could be done to ensure Queensland is the best place for small business to start, grow and employ.

Proposed focus areas

There were 5 proposed focus areas to support small business to grow and employ:

  1. Giving small business the skills and support to grow
  2. Simple and easy to do business
  3. Creating prosperous and resilient regions
  4. Connecting and collaborating
  5. Giving small business a voice

The Queensland Government tested these focus areas and sought feedback from small business on what else could be done to create the right conditions and opportunities for small business to start, grow and employ.

The consultation period is now closed.
