Nikki and Adam Mason are the powerhouse couple behind bespoke building company, Adam Mason Homes.
Their shared dedication to bolstering their business lead to Nikki completing a micro-credential that would build on her experience in contracts and administration.
Following a successful career in real estate administration, 4 years ago, Nikki joined her husband as Office Manager in the business.
She handles everything from client enquiries to accounts and all things paperwork in the Capalaba-based business which specialises in constructing luxury, architecturally-designed homes across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
Looking to build on her previous experiences, Nikki enrolled in the Master Builders' Home Warranty Insurance Workshop. The 4-hour workshop is part of the program of non-accredited Business Basic Micro-credentials courses founded through the Queensland Government micro-credentialing grants program.
It gives participants the practical skills and knowledge to help them comply with payment or premium obligations, and appropriately manage risks and obligations in the event of a claim or potential claim for defective or incomplete work.
'The course helped me understand the Home Warranty Insurance Scheme and how to set it up correctly for new projects,' Nikki said.
'So now obviously I can help Adam a bit more doing contracts—I know where I need to find the home warranty, the amount they need to pay... things that I can do for him so he can focus on other stuff.
Also, when we're doing variations, I know that I can do those up myself, and find out how much the extra home warranty insurance is on top of that, so Adam can pretty much just check it and go from there.'
Nikki said the course had also helped grow her confidence.
'Obviously, it's hard to sit Adam down and go, right, tell me what I need to know, because he's out on site. So, I appreciate the courses that come up, which help me understand more of what I can be doing.'
The short timeframe of the workshop, and the option to participate via livestream was also a bonus. 'I loved the ZOOM option because then I didn't have to leave the office - and I fit it in between my work, which was just amazing,' Nikki said.
