The Queensland Skills Strategy is not just a plan; it's a commitment to action, which came to life in a spectacular way this month (August 2024).

Two days were especially eventful, with the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training's Queensland Jobs and Skills team joining with regional offices to launch 4 expo displays in 4 different locations – Brisbane, Mount Isa, Mackay and Logan.

The big goal: Helping 1 million Queenslanders into Free TAFE and subsidised training courses that open doors to good, local jobs.

Through promotions like this, we're making the vision of the Queensland Skills Strategy a reality.

On 15 and 16 August 2024, our team shone the spotlight on skills for good jobs across Queensland reaching thousands of school students, job seekers, workers and their supporters – all seeking pathways to employment and dream careers.

In Brisbane, the annual Ekka vibrance formed the backdrop for our display, while teams showcased training aligned to local jobs in Mount Isa, Mackay and Logan.

Being held in the middle of Multicultural Queensland Month, the Queensland Training and Employment Services (QTES) led event in Logan was particularly significant, bringing together a committee of organisers that included the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training as well as Logan City Council, Workforce Australia and Multicultural Mail.

More than 1,000 people from diverse cultural backgrounds passed through the doors of the Multicultural Career and Job Expo in only 4 hours!

QTES' Dr Zakaria Amin said, in addition to connecting job seekers to immediate employment opportunities, the expo delivered long-term benefits for job seekers from multicultural backgrounds – enhancing their skills, knowledge and confidence. Attendees left the expo with job prospects as well as a renewed sense of motivation and direction in their career paths.

Prior to the bumper expo week, the Queensland Jobs and Skills team had taken the show on the road to Townsville after kicking off the tour at Brisbane's massive careers and jobs expo, TSXPO.

We're not done yet. The team will be in Cairns on 29 August 2024 and more special events in the pipeline.
