[Joshua Furness, Production Manager, Kent Saddlery]

[Background music] The Back to Work program supported our business through having a more relaxed environment for Pat to work in. I see it as an opportunity for him to be job ready at the end of the 12 months.

Patrick's role in the business is a Certificate 3 apprentice in leather production. His role is to support production as well as learn skills to take him further forward on his apprenticeship.

Pat was a good fit for Kent Saddlery and I hired him initially because in 2021, I worked with him down at the high school doing a Certificate 2 in Leather Production.

I think the Back to Work program has benefited Patrick in as much as he can relax into learning without the stress of trying to make money. I think the Back to Work program could benefit any business who is looking to give someone a go and take advantage of what that person has got to offer.

[Patrick Casey, Leather Production Apprentice}]

I did a leather course back at school a few years ago—that's when I met Josh, and not too long after I graduated, Josh reached out and offered me an apprenticeship, so here I am.

It's helped me a fair bit with my skills and personal development. I like the variety, I think, not just with the work but with other people as well—good conversations, a lot of funny moments every now and then—love it.

[Joshua]

Back to Work program has been really valuable for Kent Saddlery and if it continues to be available we'll utilise it going forward, I would imagine.
