The Queensland Government has launched a new $3 million Local Skills Solutions program that will help Queenslanders live, learn and work in their own communities.
To achieve this, local employers, industry associations, community organisations and relevant skills stakeholders are encouraged to collaborate and identify local training gaps as well as innovative ways to address them.
Administered by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training, the Local Skills Solutions program will provide funding of up to $250,000 for projects that support local and regional communities facing skills challenges or changes in their economies and labour markets, including those relating to transitioning, new and emerging industries.
Many people in rural and remote areas of Queensland often have to leave their homes to acquire new skills and find fulfilling jobs, leading to feelings of isolation and hardship.
The Local Skills Solutions program aims to strengthen local workforces and economies while helping people stay in the communities they love.
The funding program also emphasises access and equity, urging applicants to consider how they can support diverse and disadvantaged groups in their community, including:
- First Nations peoples
- individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
- young people
- women
- people in disability.
Applicants are encouraged to consult with their Regional Jobs Committee and their relevant Industry Skills Advisor during the development of their projects.
Training must be provided by a Skills Assure Supplier—quality-assured training providers approved to deliver government-funded courses in Queensland. Visit Local Skills Solutions to learn more.
