A partnership between Civil Safety, a registered training organisation, and On Common Country (OCC), an Indigenous owned non-government organisation, has provided nationally accredited training and future pathways in employment for young people participating in Transition to Success (T2S) in the Townsville region.

OCC has built strong relationships with major infrastructure companies and traditional owner groups across Northern Queensland, allowing it to facilitate collaborative partnerships on a range of large-scale, long-term projects.

OCC's partnership with Civil Safety has created a shared vision for local projects and targeted employment opportunities within the community for young people in the youth justice system or at risk of entering it. For example, T2S participants have built a kup murri pit at Townsville Flexible Learning Centre. This gave young people skills in project management, on the job employment skills and a Certificate 1 in Construction.

Employment outcomes for young people have included fulltime work with an engineering and automotive companies, and with a local Indigenous revegetation and land-care company.

The partnership provides valuable work skills, training, mentoring and employment experience to T2S participants from Townsville and surrounding areas.
