As part of the Construction Workforce Fund, the Housing Construction Traineeship Fund will increase the participation of underrepresented cohorts in the housing and construction sectors by funding additional Work Skills Traineeships projects focused on residential and social housing.

Program overview

In 2024–25, in addition to the $37.35 million available under Work Skills Traineeships, $2 million was available to fund residential and social housing projects providing entry level skills and jobs to unemployed Queenslanders from diverse backgrounds gain skills to enter the housing and construction workforce.

The program assists unemployed people to address barriers to workforce participation, including:

  • women re-entering the workforce
  • young people
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • people with disability
  • mature age job seekers, veterans
  • people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • recently released prisoners.

Through Work Skills Traineeships, participants are employed as entry level trainees, and undertake paid work while learning in a supported work environment. For projects funded under the Housing Construction Traineeship Fund, trainees complete a Certificate I in Construction qualification and General Construction Induction Training Card (white card).

2024–25 funding round

Funding under the Housing Construction Traineeship Fund was available to eligible organisations through a one‑off funding round in 2024. Applications for funding opened on Monday 10 June 2024, and closed at 5pm (AEST) on Sunday 28 July 2024.
