From 1 July 2025, the User Choice funding model will transition into 3 targeted programs, with funding for apprenticeship and traineeship training now allocated across these programs:

  • VET in Schools 2026
    • Provides students in Years 7 to 12 with opportunities to engage with industry and explore career pathways.
    • Students in Years 10 to 12 will be able to access funded training for a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship.
  • Career Start
    • Supports school leavers and job seekers with access to reduced-fee training in areas aligned with job opportunities and industry demand.
    • Includes funding for apprenticeship and traineeship training in priority and emerging industries.
  • Career Boost
    • Offers workers access to reduced-cost, higher-level training to advance their careers.
    • Includes funding for apprenticeship and traineeship training in priority and emerging industries.
    • Apprenticeship and traineeship funding is available only if the individual hasn't already accessed their quota of 2 funded apprenticeships/traineeships under Career Ready and Career Start.

Eligibility

  • From 1 July 2025, individuals will be eligible for a maximum of 2 subsidised apprenticeship/traineeship places across the 3 funded programs.
  • Certificate qualifications completed more than 10 years ago won't prevent access to funded training.
  • From 1 July 2025, priority ratings will no longer be applied to apprenticeship and traineeship funding.

These changes are part of a broader strategy to better align training investment with Queensland's future workforce needs, supporting lifelong learning and improved outcomes for learners and industry alike.
