The $2 million Set for Success pilot program aims to boost outcomes for students of government-funded training.

Skills Assure Suppliers (SAS) can apply for a grant of up to $250,000 to develop and trial high-quality, innovative and scalable initiatives to support student completions.

Funding will be available for initiatives that assist Queenslanders who experience barriers to completing their training, as well as for in-demand industry qualifications.

Examples of eligible initiatives include:

  • partnering with group training organisations to help students gain broad exposure across a range of small business operations
  • industry mentoring, such as exposure to former and current tradespeople to support apprentice or trainee completion
  • outreach to disengaged vocational education and training (VET) students, apprentices or trainees to support them to return to study
  • increased or specialised industry exposure (for example, work experience or placement in a clean energy or construction business)
  • targeted support and mentoring, such as culturally appropriate in-class translators
  • access to realistic job previews at the point-of-enrolment so students gain awareness of what the job may involve or work requirements before enrolling in training
  • access to part-time work experience with industry partners while studying
  • greater language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) content contextualisation to support learners with literacy and numeracy challenges
  • access to counselling or support services for students experiencing personal challenges.

Successful initiatives will inform efforts to maximise completions and outcomes for Queensland VET students, apprentices and trainees through the Queensland Skills Strategy – setting Queenslanders up to succeed in the workforce and securing a skills pipeline to people-power the state's economy into the future.

Duration

Set for Success is a pilot program to commence from October 2024 for selected SAS with approved projects intended to be delivered for a period of 12 months.

Application process

Applications are now open and close at 5pm, 30 August 2024 (AEST).

Who can apply

Eligible applicants are SAS who hold either a 2024–25 Queensland VET Investment SAS Agreement or 2024–25 User Choice SAS Agreement.

The program is particularly focused on creating opportunities for collaboration to achieve optimal outcomes.

Grant applicants are encouraged to partner with employers, peak bodies, industry associations or specialist service providers in developing initiatives that deliver great training for good, local jobs in communities across the state.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible, applicant SAS must:

  • be able to demonstrate significant experience and successful outcomes in delivering inclusive training to specific cohorts or have a delivery history in the industry training group being considered
  • be able to show how their application aligns with the intent of the program
  • if partnering with another agency, be able to evidence strong collaborative relationships with the industry or cohort being addressed in the application
  • have no current or open compliance issues with the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) or the Australian Skills Quality Authority.

If entering into a partnership arrangement, SAS are unable to partner with RTO consultants, labour hire companies or government departments, agencies or bodies to deliver the program.

The program does not include funding for recognition of prior learning (RPL) or a combination of RPL and credit transfer, where this represents the predominant activity for achievement of the qualification. Prospective students seeking to achieve their qualification primarily through one of these options are not the target cohort for this program.

The program does not include funding for Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) initiatives or any activity that duplicates existing SQW activities. Additionally, the program should not duplicate other state and federal funding programs for these cohorts or industries.

For more information about eligibility activity and expenditure, refer to the program guidelines.
