The award category eligibility summaries below apply to the 2022 Queensland Training Awards.

Regional-first categories

Harry Hauenschild Apprentice of the Year, Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year and Vocational Student of the Year awards

Have completed, or be due to complete, your training (i.e. completion date) in the period of 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2022 in a training course that leads to a nationally recognised outcome or qualification.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year

Be identified as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and meet the eligibility criteria for 1 of the following individual categories: Harry Hauenschild Apprentice of the Year, Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year, Vocational Student of the Year and School-based Apprentice or Trainee of the Year.

School-based Apprentice or Trainee of the Year

Be enrolled in school and undertaking/completing a Certificate II or above qualification through a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship.

Equity VET Student of the Year

Have completed, or be due to complete, your training in the State of Queensland in the period of 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2022 in an apprenticeship, traineeship or training course that leads to a nationally recognised outcome or qualification, and have experienced a significant barrier or disadvantage to effective participation in vocational education and training (VET).

VET Teacher or Trainer of the Year

Be a teacher/trainer providing nationally recognised training to students at a registered training organisation (RTO), or in partnership with an RTO.

Community Training Initiative of the Year

A community-based organisation, based in Queensland, with not-for-profit objectives that is delivering VET qualifications to enter or stay in the workforce.

Small, Medium and Large Employer of the Year awards

A business that provides nationally recognised training to employees, including apprenticeships and traineeships, with the following number of employees:

  • small – 20 or less employees
  • medium – 20–200 employees
  • large – 200+ employees.

State-only categories

Large Training Provider of the Year

An RTO that delivers VET services in Queensland, with VET delivery as its core business and 500 or more students enrolled at the time of nomination.

Small Training Provider of the Year

An RTO that delivers VET services in Queensland, with VET delivery as its core business and fewer than 500 students at the time of nomination.

Premier's Industry Collaboration Award

A skills development collaboration between at least 1 industry organisation (e.g. employer, enterprise, group of enterprises, industry association, industry advisory body, trade union or professional association) and at least 1 organisation delivering (or directly contributing to the outcomes of) nationally recognised training.
